The government of Ethiopia has a single priority goal of poverty reduction. It aims to leverage economic growth as one of the core tools to drive the achievement of this goal. The SDPRP prioritises agricultural and rural development due to their strategic contributions to the livelihood of about 85% of Ethiopians. It discusses the need to ensure adequate private sector contribution, improve the public sector's facilitation objective, and adequately develop the export sector as other tools to be explored. "The overarching objective of the governments poverty reduction strategy is to reduce poverty and equally maintain macroeconomic stability".
